when the fall and pilot television seasons are over, production goes into hiatus, leaving Level 3 Post a ghost town during the summer. that's when they start kicking some of into hiatus or mandatory vacation until the workload picks up again. this year, i was one of them, and i was determined to turn hiatus into the best summer ever.Collapse )

Day 21 – Another moment, in great detail

i walked up the stairs to my apartment and took out my keys. i do this every single day, but at that very moment, the sight of my bottle opener keychain took me back to the night of becky's chinese new year dinner. he was looking for an opener for his tall bottle of taiwan beer. i offered mine, and when i leaned over to crack it open i felt a buzz at the back of my neck that tingled all the way to my cheeks. we weren't strangers, but there was something very different about this encounter.

he was half seahorse. his skin was translucent, and visible in his knuckles were small black orbs. it looked like he had seeds in his joints. when i asked him what they were, he simply replied, "our children."

Day 08 – A moment, in great detail

we were out in the living room in our underwear with a blanket wrapped cozily around us while we played the old x-men arcade game on ps3. there was a moment where i paused to take a look at everything in slow motion. he was adorable, and we were playing one of my favorite childhood arcade games. nothing could've been better. that's when a sentinal took me down and killed me.

26 going on 87
. a little late to be making another march update, yeah? march was one of the most exciting months this year so far, and every month following has had a tough time contending. i had myself a geriatric-themed birthday party. featured above were the two best dressed of the night -- old greg and gramma mandy.

we had ourselves a good ol' fashioned dance party. if facebook allowed you to embed their videos, you'd have a more flavorful taste of the crazy that went down that night. if you have facebook, catch it here. i believe roomie yumi made the video public, but i'm not sure if that just makes it viewable to people i'm not friends with or to non-fb users as well.

the theme actually had nothing to do with my "feeling older" or "becoming an old woman" and had everything to do with how much i like old things. thrifting for old decor gradually went from party shopping to seeking permanent fixtures for my apartment. and well, i have this a new jersian middle-aged woman inside me who likes to make an appearance every now and again. she even showed up to the party a little earlier than expected thanks to boxed wine.

i went to joshua tree for rion and josh's birthdays
. there is never a dull moment with this gang. we climbed rocks, gazed at a glitter-spilled sky, turned operation into a drinking game (the worst idea ever, mind you), cooked fancy meals, hiked the deserts and whispered to horses.

we rented the most adorable little house complete with trailers, roller skates, board games, bb guns, a fire pit, a wine bottle wall and good times.

i visited my little brother in new york early in the month.
i really can't remember the last time i've spent that much time with him. as it is with most siblings growing up, i didn't mind seeing him for only portions of time in between hanging out with our respective friends, going to our respective schools, being involved in our respective activities, attending our respective churches...
but as distance grew, so did our appreciation for each other. he lives in new york now, pursuing his acting career. it's very rare that we talk -- i mean really talk -- but those five days together gave us a chance to connect, be completely candid with each other, and pray together. growing up in sibling animosity, telling my brothers i love them is still kind of a new thing, but it's one of the most wonderful new things that's come about in the past few years.
